Happy Release Day Lord Of Shadows!

On March 8th, 2016, Cassandra Clare’s much awaited Lady Midnight was released.

Today, May 23rd, 2017, it’s Lord Of Shadows turn, and let me tell you, I am excited.

Here is the official cover and summary for Cassandra Clare’s latest installment to her bestselling Shadowhunter series.

Would you trade your soul mate for your soul?
30312891
A Shadowhunter’s life is bound by duty. Constrained by honor. The word of a Shadowhunter is a solemn pledge, and no vow is more sacred than the vow that binds parabatai, warrior partners—sworn to fight together, die together, but never to fall in love.

Emma Carstairs has learned that the love she shares with her parabatai, Julian Blackthorn, isn’t just forbidden—it could destroy them both. She knows she should run from Julian. But how can she when the Blackthorns are threatened by enemies on all sides?

Their only hope is the Black Volume of the Dead, a spell book of terrible power. Everyone wants it. Only the Blackthorns can find it. Spurred on by a dark bargain with the Seelie Queen, Emma; her best friend, Cristina; and Mark and Julian Blackthorn journey into the Courts of Faerie, where glittering revels hide bloody danger and no promise can be trusted. Meanwhile, rising tension between Shadowhunters and Downworlders has produced the Cohort, an extremist group of Shadowhunters dedicated to registering Downworlders and “unsuitable” Nephilim. They’ll do anything in their power to expose Julian’s secrets and take the Los Angeles Institute for their own.

When Downworlders turn against the Clave, a new threat rises in the form of the Lord of Shadows—the Unseelie King, who sends his greatest warriors to slaughter those with Blackthorn blood and seize the Black Volume. As dangers close in, Julian devises a risky scheme that depends on the cooperation of an unpredictable enemy. But success may come with a price he and Emma cannot even imagine, one that will bring with it a reckoning of blood that could have repercussions for everyone and everything they hold dear.

If you haven’t yet ordered your copy, you can purchase special editions at Target, Barnes And Noble, as well as Costco. All first edition copies of the book will feature 30 new rune illustrations from the book. The Costco edition features an interpretation of Julian’s portrait of Emma from Lady Midnight. The Target edition includes a beautiful map of Alicante. The Barnes And Noble edition has a deleted scene from Lord of Shadows, in which Emma and Julian, Shadowhunter warriors and soul mates, meet on Blackfriars Bridge in London.

If you’re waiting for your pre-ordered copy to come, like I am, you can read the first two and a half chapters here.

Happy reading and again, happy release day to both Cassandra Clare and to Lord Of Shadows. Let me know down in the comments how you’re spending this day!

“Everything, Everything” Movie Release.

As you may have seen, from the copious advertisements, Nicola Yoon’s 2015 novel Everything, Everything, has been made into a movie.

The movie stars Amandla Stenberg(Hunger Games) as Maddie Whittier, and Nick Robinson(Jurassic World) as Olly Bright. Other members of the cast including Anika Noni Rose(The Princess And The Frog), as Maddie’s Mom, Pauline, and Ana de la Reguera(Narcos) as Maddie’s nurse Carla.

This movie looks like it’s going to be really great, hopefully one of those few cases where the movie is better than the book.  Amandla Stenberg was a fantastic Rue in the Hunger Games I loved Nick Robinson in Jurassic World, and I’m really excited to be able to see more of him. I think both of these actors are amazing and I can’t wait to see what they bring to this new story. You can catch my review of the novel here, next Friday. The film enters a theater near you today, May 19th, 2017.

Please let me know what you think of the movie down in the comments!

She should.

Loyalties are betrayed, guilt and innocence tangle, and fate and chance collide in this shocking conclusion to Mara Dyer’s story.

Retribution has arrived.

It was really great to be able to finish this series this year!

9. The Rose And The Dagger by Renee Ahdieh.

The darker the sky, the brighter the stars.

In a land on the brink of war, Shahrzad is forced from the arms of her beloved 23308084husband, the Caliph of Khorasan. She once thought Khalid a monster—a merciless killer of wives, responsible for immeasurable heartache and pain—but as she unraveled his secrets, she found instead an extraordinary man and a love she could not deny. Still, a curse threatens to keep Shazi and Khalid apart forever.

Now she’s reunited with her family, who have found refuge in the desert, where a deadly force is gathering against Khalid—a force set on destroying his empire and commanded by Shazi’s spurned childhood sweetheart. Trapped between loyalties to those she loves, the only thing Shazi can do is act. Using the burgeoning magic within her as a guide, she strikes out on her own to end both this terrible curse and the brewing war once and for all. But to do it, she must evade enemies of her own to stay alive.

The saga that began with The Wrath and the Dawn takes its final turn as Shahrzad risks everything to find her way back to her one true love again.

A beautiful completion to the WRATH AND THE DAWN series.

8. The Wrath And The Dawn by Renee Ahdieh.

One Life to One Dawn.

In a land ruled by a murderous boy-king, each dawn brings heartache to a new family. Khalid, the eighteen-year-old Caliph of Khorasan, is a monster. Each night he takes a 18798983new bride only to have a silk cord wrapped around her throat come morning. When sixteen-year-old Shahrzad’s dearest friend falls victim to Khalid, Shahrzad vows vengeance and volunteers to be his next bride. Shahrzad is determined not only to stay alive, but to end the caliph’s reign of terror once and for all.

Night after night, Shahrzad beguiles Khalid, weaving stories that enchant, ensuring her survival, though she knows each dawn could be her last. But something she never expected begins to happen: Khalid is nothing like what she’d imagined him to be. This monster is a boy with a tormented heart. Incredibly, Shahrzad finds herself falling in love. How is this possible? It’s an unforgivable betrayal. Still, Shahrzad has come to understand all is not as it seems in this palace of marble and stone. She resolves to uncover whatever secrets lurk and, despite her love, be ready to take Khalid’s life as retribution for the many lives he’s stolen. Can their love survive this world of stories and secrets?

Inspired by A Thousand and One Nights, The Wrath and the Dawn is a sumptuous and enthralling read from beginning to end.

An amazing retelling of A Thousand an One Nights. Not many people know about this tale, so I’m really glad that it’s getting told to a new audience.

7. Six Of Crows by Leigh Bardugo.

I love a good heist story, what can I say?

6. A Darker Shade Of Magic by V.E. Schwab.

This was definitely an interesting read, and I’m so happy that I took a chance and picked it up!

5. The Winner’s Crime by Marie Rutkowski.

Book two of the dazzling Winner’s Trilogy is a fight to the death as Kestrel risks betrayal of country for love.
20443207
The engagement of Lady Kestrel to Valoria’s crown prince means one celebration after another. But to Kestrel it means living in a cage of her own making. As the wedding approaches, she aches to tell Arin the truth about her engagement… if she could only trust him. Yet can she even trust herself? For—unknown to Arin—Kestrel is becoming a skilled practitioner of deceit: an anonymous spy passing information to Herran, and close to uncovering a shocking secret.

As Arin enlists dangerous allies in the struggle to keep his country’s freedom, he can’t fight the suspicion that Kestrel knows more than she shows. In the end, it might not be a dagger in the dark that cuts him open, but the truth. And when that happens, Kestrel and Arin learn just how much their crimes will cost them.

A great sequel to the equally great The Winner’s Curse. The world development in this novel is great.

4. The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkowski.

Winning what you want may cost you everything you love…

16069030As a general’s daughter in a vast empire that revels in war and enslaves those it conquers, seventeen-year-old Kestrel has two choices: she can join the military or get married. But Kestrel has other intentions.

One day, she is startled to find a kindred spirit in a young slave up for auction. Arin’s eyes seem to defy everything and everyone. Following her instinct, Kestrel buys him—with unexpected consequences. It’s not long before she has to hide her growing love for Arin.

But he, too, has a secret, and Kestrel quickly learns that the price she paid for a fellow human is much higher than she ever could have imagined.

Set in a richly imagined new world, The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski is a story of deadly games where everything is at stake, and the gamble is whether you will keep your head or lose your heart.

I loved the characters and this world! Kestrel and Arin had some seriously undeniable chemistry.

3. Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare.

Danger and betrayal, love and loss, secrets and enchantment are woven together in the breathtaking finale to the #1 New YorkTimes bestselling Infernal Devices Trilogy, prequel to the internationally bestselling Mortal Instruments series.

18335634THE INFERNAL DEVICES WILL NEVER STOP COMING

A net of shadows begins to tighten around the Shadowhunters of the London Institute. Mortmain plans to use his Infernal Devices, an army of pitiless automatons, to destroy the Shadowhunters. He needs only one last item to complete his plan: he needs Tessa Gray.

But when Mortmain abducts Tessa, the boys who lay equal claim to her heart, Jem and Will, will do anything to save her. As those who love Tessa rally to rescue her from Mortmain’s clutches, Tessa realizes that the only person who can save her is herself. But can a single girl, even one who can command the power of angels, face down an entire army?

Danger and betrayal, secrets and enchantment, and the tangled threads of love and loss intertwine as the Shadowhunters are pushed to the very brink of destruction in the breathtaking conclusion to the Infernal Devices trilogy.

It has taken me quite a while to wrap up this series, but I’m really happy that I finally finished it. It was amazing and I can’t wait for The Last Hour! Also, can we talk about this amazing cover? It is so beautiful.

2. The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken.

When Ruby woke up on her tenth birthday, something about her had changed. Something frightening enough to make her parents lock her in the garage and call the police. Something that got her sent to Thurmond, a brutal government 10576365“rehabilitation camp.” She might have survived the mysterious disease that had killed most of America’s children, but she and the others emerged with something far worse: frightening abilities they could not control.

I have finally gotten around to reading this book. Everybody has talked about how great it is, and I must conquer, it’s fantastic.
